Ed assists NOAA Fisheries Protected Resources Division and Office of Protected Resources—and community-based responders like the Petersburg Marine Mammal Center—free humpback whales and other large whales from life threatening entanglements. The effort also helps keep people safe and gathers valuable information that might reduce the threat of entanglement for these large animals and the impacts it poses to fishing industries.
