Outreach
We inform the community, boaters, fishermen and visitors about marine research, science and stranding prevention.

Radio Series
Curious about marine science topics? Browse and listen to our archive of short radio programs.
Frederick Soundings is an educational radio series aired monthly on KFSK Community Radio in Petersburg, Alaska. Each program is a three-minute burst of knowledge about marine mammals, ocean science, or animal behavior and is rich with the underwater and coastal sounds of Alaska.

We conduct workshops and meetings to facilitate communication between government agency managers and the fishing and boating community. From special presentations by the National Weather Service to roundtable discussions with NOAA Fisheries about the latest humpback whale species and habitat designations, we are a neutral organization working to bring stakeholders together.
PMMC has created and placed interpretive signage throughout the Petersburg community. Check out locations around Outlook Park, the South Harbor parking area, and Hammer Slough along Sing Lee Alley to find natural history information about humpback whales, seabirds, estuary species and salmon.
We produce and distribute publications, stickers and other published content to inform boaters, community members and visitors about marine mammals and stranding response.
Science Presentations & Expert-led Lectures
Our adult outreach program includes the Petersburg Science Series, which is a monthly science seminar program. We host scientists and professionals to discuss a variety of natural sciences topics including humpback whale research, cephalopod intelligence, fisheries management, deer and moose population biology, and special presentations by National Weather Service marine forecasters.
Miss a presentation? We record some lectures so you can replay them at your own convenience.
